The Monteperle Vineyard is located in the Lyndoch sub-region of the Barossa Valley. Grapes from this area are highly regarded for making premium age worthy wines. This blend of Grenache, Shiraz and Mataro is a classic blend well suited to the Southern Barossa.
Barossa’s 2019 wines will be sought out early, following the lowest yielding but possibly the highest quality vintage of the past decade. After a very dry winter and spring, frost disrupted budburst and flowering. This was followed by hot, very dry conditions with 11 days over 35C in January. The lower yields will result with great colour, intense flavours and firm tannin structure.
Ruby red in colour with deep purple hues, the complex nose has raspberry and black fruits, with charcuterie, pepper, spices and lifted oak aromas. The palate is rich and full bodied with ripe spicy red and black berry fruits, smoked meats, with raspberry and pepper persisting on the finish. Fine fleshy textured tannins and fine acidity support the fruit and give structure, length, and persistence.
